13:00 - Opening speech byDirk Boll, Deputy Chairman, 20th and 21st Century Art, EMEA
13:15 -Panel 1: Art disputes - tangible and intangible assets
Art is primarily to be enjoyed, while also an investment. The intrinsic value of art may lie in the joy it brings to its owner. However, the actual value may depend on issues such as provenance, title, lending and security. Disputes arise regarding these issues that are made more complex when art crosses international borders. The digitalisation of art by the creation of NFTs and tokenised artworks has widened the way art is appreciated, although it has broadened the scope for disputes. The panel of international experts will explore these legal issues and how these disputes can be resolved. This panel will be moderated byRebecca Attree, IPOS Mediation and Chair of Dispute Resolution Working Group, Libralex EEIG.
15:00 - Coffee break
15:30 -Panel 2: In The Wrong Hands: current developments in provenance and authenticity issues related to art and cultural property
A panel discussion focussing on current developments concerning provenance and authenticity issues related to art and cultural property, including a discussion of the increase in ethical decision making by art institutions, art dealers’ duty of care, and the ways in which the law is continuing to catch up with those who have dealt in illicit objects.
