The Civil Mediation Council (CMC) has opened a public consultation on a proposed Code of Professional Practice for Mediators, marking a significant step in the ongoing evolution of mediation standards across England and Wales.
The draft Code, published on the CMC’s website, aims to define what it means to operate as a regulated mediation professional, setting out the core values, behaviours and responsibilities expected of practitioners.
The consultation is open to mediators, legal professionals, stakeholders and members of the public, with the CMC encouraging broad participation to shape the final version of the Code.
CMC Chair Kelly Stricklin-Coutinho described the consultation as “an important part of the process,” adding that feedback will help ensure the Code reflects both public expectations and professional experience.
